Beechworth Events & Festivals

Beechworth is well known as a major destination when it comes to staging annual and one off festivals and events. Festivals including the Beechworth Easter Golden Horseshoes festival and the Harvest Festival attract thousands of visitors from around the region each year.

There are also a large number of one off special events, functions and celebrations which can be found on the Beechworth calendar.



Kerferd Oration

The Beechworth Kerferd Oration is named in honour of George Biscoe KerferdThe Beechworth Kerferd Oration is an annual event held at La Trobe University complex in Beechworth and is named after one of the founding fathers of Beechworth, George Kerferd. Past orators at this free community event were Rev. Tim Costello (2009) Tim Flannery (2008), Deputy Premier of Victoria the Hon John Thwaites (2007); Cathy McGowan AO (2006); Professor Henry Brodaty AO (2005); Barbara Holborow OAM (2004) and the then Chief Justice of Victoria the Hon John Phillips AC (2003).

Beechworth Ned Kelly Weekend

Beechworth Ned Kelly WeekendBeechworth’s famous Ned Kelly Weekend is held in August each year with a lively program of re-enactments, theatre, art, music, displays, market stalls, competitions and talks by leading authorities on the subject of the life and times of Australia’s most notorious bushranger.

Widely regarded as this country’s most important annual celebration of the Kelly legend, the weekend event commemorates the anniversary of the outlaw’s committal hearing held in the historic Beechworth Courthouse from 6 to 11 August 1880.
