A group of dedicated local mothers this week launched their campaign to raise money to purchase new toys and equipment for Beechworth’s St Josephs Primary School playgroup.
With the support of the Beechworth and District Community Bank which paid for all the consumables through its monthly community sausage sizzle and the Lions Club of Beechworth Community Trailer, the group of Beechworth Mums and daughters are well on their way to achieving their goal.
Representing the mothers, and St Josephs Playgroup, was Loz Shallue who said “we had a wonderful day. All the girls here today have enjoyed the process of working together to raise money for a good community outcome that will benefit future generations who use the playgroup facilities” Mrs Shallue went on to say that even though the day was organised to raise funds for the playgroup it also gave the younger girls exposure to valuable new life skills such as receiving money and safe food handling”
Chairman of the Beechworth and District Community Bank Jamie Horne said “the monthly BBQ’s are open to all community groups in our region, each month we will pay for the consumables which effectively allows the groups to double the money they would normally expect to raise. It is great community outcome and just another way we are putting our profits back into our community.”
Mrs Shallue said the group hoped to raise around $350 from the sausage sizzle and acknowledge that “the Community Bank had helped make this happen” and encouraged other community groups to take up the initiative.
The St Josephs Primary School playgroup is free to attend and runs each Thursday morning within the school campus. Reservations for funded sausage sizzles can be made at the Beechworth and District Community Bank.
