This is a reminder to me that there is so much in the region that is largely undiscovered by locals and visitors alike and that credit should be given to the people who placed all these little treasure for us to find.
This particular cache is found amongst a number in this area. Named after the bare knuckle fights that took place here
Some local History: In 1858, the Congregational Minister from Beechworth had been holding open air church services at Three Mile until it was decided to erect a Public Room to be used as a Day School, Church and Sabbath School Room. The Three Mile Public Room was opened on the 9th May, 1858.
The cairn was built by Mr G Pyle, Mr F LeCouteur and Mr J Bartsch. It was unveiled in 1938. Some 20 years later during the centenary celebrations a large crowd including descendants from many of the early settlers attended.
The cache is only small and well hidden. It is a log only so be sure to bring your own pen.
