Beechworth Golden Horseshoes Monument

Beechworth Golden Horseshoes MonumentThe Beechworth Golden Horseshoes Monument is located on Sydney Road on the perimeter of the town at the Albury - Wodonga exit. This monument was erected in 1954 to commemorate the famous incident of the Golden Horseshoes.

In 1855 at approximately the same location as the monument now stands miners from the Reid's Creek and Woolshed Creek goldfields shod a horse with golden shoes. It was on this horse that the miners candidate, Donald Cameron, for the first Victorian parliamentary elections rode into town on polling day.
