Beechworth Pioneers MonumentThe Beechworth Pioneers Monument is located in the centre of Beechworth on the corner of Camp Street and Ford Street in front of the Post Office. It was erected in 1954 in honer, and in memory, of the pioneers who founded Beechworth and the fact that it was once a famous gold mining town.

 

Significant dates mentioned on the monument include: Gold was discovered in Beechworth in February 1852 and it was name and declared a township in July 1853. Also mentioned is the September 1855 Golden Horseshoes inclident, total gold returns on 3,121,918 ozs, Robert O'Hara Burke as the Captain of Police from 1856 - 1859 and on August 6th 1880 the trial of Ned Kelly began.
