Beechworth Historic Park is located 270 km north-east of Melbourne and is home to a number of significant goldmining sites are found within the boundaries of the parks 1020 hectares. The Beechworth Historic Park includes many eucalyptus and native cypress pine forests, creeks, steep gullies and rugged granite outcrops. Always keep to the tracks in the this part of Beechworth as there are many open mine shafts still remaining.
There is plenty to do in the Beechworth Historic Park including: walking, gem-fossicking, fishing, swimming and horse riding. There is a Beechworth Forest Drive that begins in the centre of town and passes through the peppermint forest near Lake Kerferd. The 5 km Gorge Scenic Drive, which is also a pleasant walk passes waterfalls, cascades and offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside on the western side of Beechworth. The walk /drive also takes you past the historic powder magazine and miners hut.
There is an abundant range of wildlife in the Beechworth Historic Park including the rare Brush-tailed phascogales, Bandy Bandy Snakes and Barking Owls. Eucalyptus and native cypress-pine forests are prevalent in the park.
