The Emma George Landcare and Bird Hide area was created around Beechworth's Lake Sambell as part of the Sydney 2000 Olympics. The project was in recognition of Beechworth’s Olympian and World Record pole-vaulter, Emma George. A section of the reserve was planted with 2,000 native seedlings as part of the 'Olympics Greening Australia'.
This is only a short walk which can be accessed via Jarvis Road or as part of a complete circuit around Lake Sambell. A bird hide has been constructed at this site that offers views over Lake Sambell and enables secluded viewing of water and woodland birds.
Linking in with the Emma George Landcare site is a network of pathways that lead people from the sandy beach area past the caravan park and onto Lower Stanley Rd.
