The Robert O’Hara Burke Memorial Museum
is one of the finest regional museums in Victoria. The museum’s
collection reflects the importance of Beechworth as a booming
gold-mining town, with displays of life on the goldfields,
geology, natural history, the Chinese community in Beechworth,
South East Australian Aboriginal artifacts, Ned Kelly and
of course, Robert O’Hara Burke.
The museum offers special services for
coach groups with talks and tours relating to the museum
and its collection.
The ‘Street of Shops’ recreates the atmosphere
of Beechworth’s 19th century streetscape. A program
of temporary exhibitions ensures there is always something
new to see.
In addition to the guided or self-guided experience, the
museum offers tours, talks and activities for adult and
special interest groups, and an extensive education program
for schools. School services include education kits, school
group tours and special activities programs. The education
officer can assist with organising a program designed for
your particular curriculum requirements.
